Choosing a Cover for Your nook Wireless Reader
The best way of keeping your nook safe and free of scratches is to keep it covered. That's no problem -- there is a good selection of covers and cases out there. But how do you choose the nook cover that's right for you?
Consider the options:
- Materials: There are covers made of leather, nylon, neoprene (a synthetic rubber), microfiber, foam and canvas. You can also cover your nook with a skin, which is basically a plastic decal that's become popular with cell phone users.
- Styles: nook covers can be hinged to open like a book. They can be simple sleeves or messenger-style bags. They can have zippers, snaps, straps and/or velcro.
- Price: Can range from a couple of bucks for a skin to well over $100 for smartly styled, genuine leather covers.
Think about how and where you're going to use your nook. If you plan on keeping it at home, most materials and styles should be fine. But you need to be more selective if you're taking your nook on the road. Is it going to be jostled and bounced around? Consider a cover with a harder shell or thicker padding. What about moisture? You'll be better off with a water-resistant synthetic instead of leather or suede.
Are you going to use your reader often? Then you might be better off with a sleeve than with a jacket, whose hinge might weaken over time. On the other hand, if you prefer to keep your nook covered while you read, a jacket might be the way to go.
